FURNITURE LINE

The Prima collection is a concept by Andrés Mier y
Terán for Pirwi, a contemporary furniture firm.

Created in collaboration with Muebles de Concreto (MDC), Prima shares with Pirwi the principles of serial production, high-quality materials, environmental responsibility, and careful design.

Throughout his career, Mier y Terán’s principles include design as a tool for change and the creation of original pieces in constant development, which, along with an impeccable sense of aesthetics, are realized in the Prima collection.

MDC is a Mexican company that has brought concrete to different scales and uses through research and innovation. The Prima collection intends to bring concrete into homes, as light, durable furniture that is also easy to maintain.

After a deep study under the highest quality standards, the result of this partnership is a timeless 26-item line. Solid materials and natural fibers have been used, keeping special attention to both the assembly work and the exquisite carpentry.

Prima combines three great virtues: the use of woven rattan through traditional handmade production, which includes renewable materials; Concrete covers developed by MDC, contributing innovation and technological development, and solid wooden structures, featuring curved joints that provide each piece with a genuine silhouette.

Collection highlights include the EME table, an ode to simplicity and delicacy made of oak and gray concrete or tzalam and black concrete; the TEA chairs and JIVA open credenza, available both in oak or tzalam wood. These furniture pieces combine straight lines with rounded edges and perfectly harmonize the materials’ solidity with their visual lightness. Other pieces, such as the OTTO armchair or MIMA console, use the finest textiles, rattan, and leather.

Prima combines contemporary and tradition; technology and handwork; wood and concrete; creating an aesthetic language that is both novel and traditional. The color palette—ranging from tzalam brown to graphite gray and slate and concrete black—is warm and neutral. The product of this effort is a blend of serenity and elegance, a display of simplicity and taste.
