Saturated colors, geometric shapes, and sophisticated materials define the atmosphere of Phonique, a project that transports us back through time to the 70s.
MYT+GLVDK chose design and sound like a common thread that revives the emotion of the good old days when groovy vibes raised at the rhythm of the music played on quadraphonic turntables.
Encompassing architecture, furniture design, and branding, the firm conceived Phonique as a vinyl records discotheque. The result integrates multiple models of lamps that evoke the curved shapes of the iconic Nesso, custom-made furniture with yellow tweed and purple and jade velvet, as well as infinite mirrors on the walls. Just like it used to add an extra dimension to the musical enjoyment, the typography and motifs on the cover of the long-playing records of the 70s played a leading role in the brand identity; the lines reflect a graphic abstraction of a star, an old-time classic that represents sound waves.
Comprising 146 sqm, the nightclub is divided into three main spaces: an open room with a central volume made up of wooden spheres, which refers to the shape of a phonograph’s horn, that gives its name to the place; a dance floor designed as a sound booth; and the bar area. In each of these zones, features of the representative clubs of yesteryear can be observed, adding unexpected combinations - far from minimalism and monochrome - in walnut, cedar, concrete with yellow melamine, shiny shapes and paint in deep shades of green and purple.
The concept presents a series of graphic references that, recurring to elements of the past, build an identity that reflects the nostalgia of the vibrant 70s Mexico City nightlife.
